Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
