Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.
Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.
Success also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
